Erin West, founder of Operation Shamrock and a globally recognized expert in cryptocurrency-related crime and transnational fraud, will open the 2025 Marketplace Risk Management Conference, on May 14 in San Francisco.

Her presentation, “Scams Are Crushing Us — How Do We Fight Back?” focuses on the threats posed by the scam industry. Transnational organized crime has embedded itself into the global digital economy, operating at an industrial scale to execute sophisticated scams that are draining a generation’s wealth.

As platforms, governments, and users struggle to keep pace, the threat continues to evolve and accelerate. In this powerful opening session, we’ll explore why the problem is far more complex than it appears on the surface. Drawing on real-world data and frontline insights, Erin will uncover the scale, structure, and tactics of organized scam operations. Most important, she will spotlight actionable solutions that marketplaces and digital platforms can deploy today to disrupt this growing threat.

The world’s largest marketplace conference, The Marketplace Risk Management Conference agenda and sessions focus on:

  • Risk management

  • Trust and safety

  • Legal compliance

  • Technology innovation

With more than 800 marketplace and digital platform industry leaders attending and an agenda featuring more than 70 conference sessions, organizers expect this year’s event to be the biggest yet.
