Time is of the essence if you’re a victim of a scam. There are steps you can take and organizations you can contact for support. A few things to remember:

  • Bad actors move money quickly: Your best defense is to report the details of your crime immediately.

  • Act as your own advocate: You will likely encounter law enforcement who is not familiar with this type of crime. Be polite but firm. Ask for a financial crimes detective and request that they take a report.

  • Avoid being revictimized: People and companies that seem legitimate may promise to help you recover your assets, but it’s unlikely you’ll get your money back. Be wary of spending more money to pursue your lost funds.

Five steps to take now.
