Crypto Coalition: Back to School, Week 1


The Operation Shamrock Crypto Coalition is presenting a two-week webinar sprint series to help active members of law enforcement build crypto investigation skills, from the most basic to the most complex.

The Crypto Coalition is a network of more than 2,000 local, state, federal, and international law enforcement partners. Together, they share best practices and participate in webinars that teach the ins and outs of cryptocurrency investigation and asset seizure. Join Crypto Coalition

Each weekday from September 29 to October 10, we will host a one-hour webinar at noon Eastern, 9 am Pacific. Members of the Crypto Coalition may register for each session individually using the links below

Week 1 Sessions

  • Day 1: Crypto for the Beat Cop
    Monday, 9/29 — A foundational session designed for frontline officers. Learn how to recognize cryptocurrency-related activity in day-to-day policing, key terminology, red flags, and best practices for immediate action and escalation. (Tuzinski)

  • Day 2: UTXO vs. Account-Based Blockchains
    Tuesday, 9/30 — Dive into the core structures of blockchain systems. Understand the differences between UTXO (used by Bitcoin) and account-based models (used by Ethereum), and how these impact investigations and tracing techniques. (Berry)    

  • Day 3: Bridges/Swaps
    Wednesday, 10/1 — Explore how criminals use bridges and token swap platforms to obscure the flow of illicit crypto. Learn how cross-chain movement complicates tracking and what tools can help trace these transfers. (Templeman) 

  • Day 4: Legal Processes and Considerations
    Thursday, 10/2 — Get an overview of the legal framework investigators need to be aware of when dealing with crypto cases. Topics include subpoenas, MLATs, chain of custody, and best practices for courtroom readiness. (Stacy) 

  • Day 5: OSINT
    Friday, 10/3 — Discover how open-source intelligence (OSINT) plays a crucial role in crypto investigations. Learn techniques for gathering actionable intel from publicly available sources while maintaining operational security. (Misskerg)
