Scam scripts revealed: Police uncover tricks impersonators use

NBC KARE 11 - Minnesota

KARE 11 News | Sgt. Jake Tuzinski with Minnesota’s Brooklyn Park Police Department is investigating cases where scammers impersonated law enforcement officers.

The scammers use sophisticated scripts to trick people into sending money to avoid jail time. During one of those investigations, Tuzinski came across actual scripts that the scammers use.

They are really working to build trust and to convince the victim that they are speaking to an actual law enforcement official.

Tuzinski, a member of the Crypto Coalitiona network of more than 2,000 local, state, federal, and international partners focused on crypto fraud — showed the scripts to the news team to highlight red flags for potential victims.

The scripts discourage the victim from mentioning the conversation to anyone they know in their personal life, telling them they’re under a gag order that forbids them from talking about their case.
