Police contacted a couple in Castle Rock, Colorado, after a Wells Fargo Elder Abuse reporting team contacted police. During the interaction, the scammer admitted she’d impersonated a federal agent in a gift-card scam to get thousands of dollars.

Erin West, a former California prosecutor and founder of Operation Shamrock, said she’d never seen a scammer do something like this on video before.

“That is a person who has a heart and realizes that what she's just done is steal thousands of dollars from an elderly couple, and though she wasn't willing to give it back, what she was willing to do is try and stop the bleeding,” West said.
